ENEMIES AT DEATH’S GATE? Summary from Manchester, CT, Part 1

The group visited a house in Manchester, CT, where the family had been hearing strange voices, observing unusual behavior with their pets, and had experienced physical contact. This is the story of what occurred during our visit, based on our readings, observations and experiences. The mediums had no prior knowledge of any of the spirits in the home.

An old friend mentioned to Darlene that strange things had been happening in their home, and more frequently as of late. The family had two children and were concerned about their well-being. We went to see if we could help.

What was still living in this house?

When I entered the client’s home, Darlene, Jennifer and Sara were already in the dining room, finishing up their conversation with the client. I walked into the living room, set down my bags and noticed something standing next to a couch in the corner. This spirit didn’t immediately move when I started right into its spot, but after a few moments it circled me and returned to where it started. I was unsure of its gender, and simply said hello and moved on.

The next room I entered was a family room on the opposite side of the house. I detected a man standing in the corner. I picked up on the name James, briefly said hello once again, and went back to the dining room. Meanwhile, Sara went upstairs to set up an unattended EVP session, and Darlene followed to photograph the areas for evidence.

Crystal arrived, and I showed her the living room first, where I had originally detected the spirit next to the couch. We were able to find out her name was Cindy. After a brief conversation, we walked to the family room, and I noticed that there was more energy in the room than when I entered it earlier. Crystal and I started talking to whatever was there.

“Who are you?”

Who are you?

We introduced ourselves, and I confirmed with Crystal that the man’s name was James. He was confused, as he didn’t understand how I knew his name. And now the spirit in the living room was with us in the family room. She called herself Cindy and told Crystal she was following us.

We would later find out that James and Cindy were best friends in death.

While we waited for Sara to finish the session upstairs, we went into the basement. Crystal started hearing, “I have a story to tell you,” coming from a female spirit. I asked for her name – she replied to Crystal that it was Tabitha. I told her we would return to hear her story, as we had to finish checking the house. But she didn’t want us to leave, and her pull was strong – it was so strong it made it difficult to determine if there was anything else was in the basement. So doing my best to separate myself from her energy, I was able to sense something in the opposing corner of the basement. Crystal heard the name Billy. Crystal and I looked at each other, and we both guessed what might be happening.

Was one spirit keeping the other from leaving?

The unattended EVP session being complete, we made our way upstairs after Sara gave us the go-ahead. Upon entering the clients’ son’s bedroom on the right, Crystal heard something loud and clear.

You’re not allowed in here. Get out of here. This room is protected.

We were repeatedly told to get out. Whatever it was, it was insistent on keeping us clear of the room. The longer we stayed in the room, the angrier Crystal could feel it becoming. I asked if we could talk to it in another room, and we walked across the hall to the master bedroom.

Both Crystal and I had a feeling about this spirit – it wasn’t the usual spirit that was stuck or had unfinished business. What was it?

The spirit asked Crystal, “Why did you go in there?” After explaining what we were doing, we each introduced ourselves and asked for its name – Crystal told us it was Robert. He said to Crystal that he wasn’t going to tell us much.

Robert was some sort of guardian. Based on our experiences with similar entities, we knew that Robert was limited in what he could say. Regardless, we tried to find out what we could, and started an EVP session immediately. Darlene asked the questions.

What is your name? Robert.
Why are you here? To protect [son]
Are you waiting for something or someone? Can’t say.
Are there any other spirits here? No one like me – six spirits.

We had only counted four.

Do you want to leave or stay here? No choice – stay.
Were you married? That is irrelevant.
What did you do for work? I am working.
Are you angry or happy? Upset if you enter the room.

The thought entered my mind that Robert had worked hard to protect the room, and he may have been concerned that we would disrupt the energy.

Are you sad or lonely? No
Are you hurting right now? No.
Do you know what year it is? 2010.
Do you know where you are? Yes.
Were you religious? Yes.

According to Crystal, Robert’s sole purpose was to protect the son. We did ask him if we could assist him in any way, and Crystal heard him say that the man in the basement needed to leave. I wanted to ask more questions, but that would have to wait.

The next room we entered was the daughter’s bedroom. I had the feeling that something might be there, but was unsure. I asked who was there several times, and tried to focus on the source of the energy. Crystal could not hear a response, and I wasn’t able to hone in on a single location where there might be a presence.

And Crystal was hearing music in her head. Why?

After a very quick check of the attic, the entire team headed back to the basement. Tabitha still had a story to tell, and we wanted to confirm our suspicions – was one spirit holding the other hostage? We approached the corner behind the washing machine, and Darlene started asking questions for the EVP session.

What is your name? Tabitha.
Why are you here? Billy.
Are you waiting for something or someone? Billy won’t let me leave.

Our guess was correct.

Did you live here? No.
Were you married? I don’t know.
Did you have children? I don’t know.
Are you angry or happy? Angry at Billy.
Are you sad or lonely? Yes.
Do you know what year it is? 1971.
Do you know where you are? No.
What year were you born? 1920.
Your birthday? February 2.
Where did you grow up? Iowa.
Were you religious? Yes.

Tabitha went on to tell Crystal that Billy was in the opposite corner of the basement, keeping her from leaving. She told Crystal that he was mean and would threaten her, and she was afraid he would hurt her if she tried to leave. Darlene asked Tabitha if there was a light in the basement, and she informed Crystal that it was behind Billy.

So we went to talk with Billy.

Darlene said, “Hi Billy.”

Crystal heard “Go away.”

We went ahead and started the EVP session anyway.

What is your name? Billy.
Why are you here? Died here.
Are you waiting for something or someone? No.
Did you live here? Yes.
Are there any other spirits here? No.

He didn’t count Tabitha as a spirit?

Do you want to leave here? I don’t know how to leave.
Do you want to stay here? NO.
Were you married? Yes.
Her name? Maria.
Did you have children? Yes. 2 boys.
What did you do for work? Firefighter.
Are you angry or happy? No, no.
Are you sad or lonely? Yes, yes.
Do you know what year it is? 1981.
Do you know where you are? My home.
What year were you born? 1918.
How did you pass away? In a fire.
Were you religious? No.

Why wouldn’t he go through? Why didn’t he know how to leave?

Darlene continued talking to him, and tried to get him to pass through.

Can you see a bright light?
Yes, it’s dangerous.
The light isn’t dangerous.
There are crazy people in there!
There’s crazy people everywhere.
They have knives, guns.
Do you want to see your wife and kids again?
They’re waiting to use them on me.
They’re not going to use them on you.

Is that why you won’t let Tabitha through?
Yes, and I’m lonely.
Can you try and look for your wife and kids?
NO! NO!
Will you let Tabitha go, so we can show you that it’s not bad?
You want to sacrifice her?
No, we want to show you that the light isn’t bad.
They will eat her…
